The challenge: Small actuator for large nominal diameters

Category News

Challenge: How to equip a large nominal diameter with a small drive – how does that work?

We came up with something clever and rethought the shut-off valve!

Traditional shut-off and relief valves are often designed as needle valves. The larger the nominal diameter and the higher the operating pressure, the more force is needed to close them. To automate these valves, the handle can be replaced with a pneumatic drive. However, to generate enough force, the drive must be of a certain size, which means more space and weight.

We don't want to settle for that.

What if...

  • the size of the pneumatic drives could be significantly reduced?
  • the space ratio of the valve body and drive could be reduced to less than 1:3?
  • the weight could be reduced by 5 times?
  • the amount of air needed to operate could be reduced by more than 90%?
