The challenge: Small actuator for large nominal diameters

Shut-off and relief valves for high-pressure applications are usually designed as needle valves. The larger the nominal diameter and the higher the operating pressure, the more force is required to close the valves. To automate these needle valves, the manual operating handle can be replaced by a pneumatic actuator. In order to apply sufficient force, in some cases the actuators must be dimensioned very large.

The installation space of the valves then increases many times in comparison to manually actuated valves. For example, air actuators with a diameter of 270 mm are required to operate valves with a nominal diameter of 1”.

However, it is not only the installation space that presents users and integrators with great challenges - large valves also mean a lot of weight.

The valve in our example weighs 60 kg with the air actuator and requires a large volume of air for actuation. The safe integration of such components therefore requires smart solutions and a willingness to compromise.

In-situ maintenance

Conventional needle valves must be removed from the respective application/system for maintenance. Depending on the installation situation, removal and installation can be relatively time-consuming. With our new ValvolutionX valve series, we are opening up a new chapter and enabling maintenance to be carried out while the valve is installed. This means that maintenance work can be reduced to just a few minutes.

To simplify maintenance and ensure the best possible supply of maintenance kits, we have implemented a new concept for our product design. With just two maintenance kits (Dynamic and Static Seal Kits), all valves in the ValvolutionX series can be easily maintained, regardless of the connection size.


Safety

Safety

Especially in Hydrogen applications, it is important to divert potential leaks safely away from the system environment. This is the only technically safe way to prevent the formation of an explosive atmosphere.

All valves in our new ValvolutionX-Series are equipped with separate connections and are therefore ideally prepared for leakage piping.

We have integrated an additional leakage chamber with a corresponding threaded connection for each connection. No other high-pressure valve for hydrogen currently offers this feature.

Thanks to our evolutionary cartridge technology, our customers can also use the ValvolutionX-Series in applications where the valve can be pressurized on both sides.
