BMWi supports research project for diesel injection technology
Representatives from the companies Audi AG, Benteler, Continental, L`Orange, Liebherr, MAN, MAXIMATOR and Wärtsilä, the Darmstadt Technical University and the Weimar Material Research and Testing Institute met at the bi-annual meeting of the members of the research project.
The meeting focused on "Autofrettage as a means to increase fatigue strength, fatigue limit and operational stability of components, particularly in diesel injection technology". This research project applied for by the Research Association for Combustion Engines (FVV e.V.), a membership corporation, is supported by the Federal Ministry for Economics and Technology (BMWi) via the work group of industrial research associations (AiF).
Today, autofrettage with pressures up to 10,000 bar is increasingly used for components in diesel injection systems because the method has proven to add to fatigue strength and operational stability of piping. Autofrettage is applied whenever components are subject to high pulsating internal pressures during operation.
The construction of autofrettage systems and autofrettage service up to 15,000 bar are among the core competencies of Maximator GmbH.
